Every day is a chance to become better

We all know the benefits of exercise for our physical health, but we must not forget that they are even more important for our mental health and wellbeing.

 

Participation in regular physical activity can increase our self-esteem and can reduce stress and anxiety. It also plays a role in preventing the development of mental health problems and in improving the quality of life of people experiencing mental health problems.   But one of the most positive impacts is on our mood.

 

Researchers all over the world have found that people feel more content after periods of activity (going for a walk or doing housework) than after periods of inactivity (reading a book or watching television).

 

And let´s face it, we all like to feel happy and in a good mood so why not include exercise into your daily routine?  It can be a bit scary making changes to your life, and most people get anxious about trying something new, but once you make room for extra activities and find the exercise that´s right for you, you will feel more motivated and eventually you will get used to it.

Here are simple ways to incorporate fitness into your life without having to take away too much time from your busy life:

 

  • Walk whenever you can.

  • If possible, workout first thing in the morning. It will energize you for the rest of the day!

  • Always take the stairs instead of using the elevator.

  • Limit screen time. Screens can take up a lot of time in our day and we may not even realize it.

  • Always make time for exercise that you enjoy.

  • Wear a fitness tracker. Fitness trackers can motivate you to up your movement and steps for the day!

  • And finally remember: “consistency is about repetition”.
